YouTube is Now Serving Over 1.5B users

YouTube has been fast growing in popularity ever since its inception in the year Feb 2005. As at June 2017, YouTube has 1.5B users in 88 countries around the globe operating 76 different languages. As a matter of fact, it sits only second to Facebook which has 0.5B million more users than YouTube.

YouTube is Popular among Users Aged between 25 and 44.

YouTube is popular among users of virtually every age cohort but more so among users in the 25-44 age bracket. This group accounts for a whopping 49% of the users but what’s even interesting is that men are bigger fans of YouTube than women. Well, could it be that men fancy viewing videos more? Perhaps that is the case but for sure more and more women will join the wagon soon as YouTube grows even bigger.

Over 500 hours of Videos are uploaded to YouTube per Minute

Judging by the statistics, many users around the globe are generating content and sharing them via YouTube. Over 500 hours of video content are uploaded via this platform per minute with “People and Blogs” category topping these uploads at 41% of the total share.

YouTube Takes Down 9% of Videos Uploaded For Copyright Related Issues

YouTube has grown so mindful of the content uploaded on the platform in a bid to fight copyright infringement. Stats show that in 2017, copyright holders took down 9% of the videos uploaded on YouTube. This goes to show that YouTube is pushing for original content from the users in the quest to uphold the integrity of the platform.

Pop Musicians Top the Celebs List on YouTube

Pop musicians are running the show on YouTube with the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and other top pop artistes leading the most popular celebs list on YouTube. The likes of Real Madrid’s Cristiano, PSG’s Neymar, other athletes, and actors are the darling of fans on Facebook but YouTube is pop music’s territory. Of course, this is largely attributed to the fact that YouTube is a platform where music fans can get their favorite music. In fact, music is the most searched term on YouTube in 2017.

On Average, Users Spend 40 Minutes per Day on YouTube

Most users around tend to jump into YouTube for leisure purposes no wonder an average user spends 40 minutes a day watching YouTube videos. This translates to 1 billion hours of YouTube watched per day with more and more of these hits coming from mobile devices.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. It looks like YouTube and other social networks are bound to grow even bigger with internet and mobile penetration growing around the world.  It’s just a matter of time!
